The Podgorica City Theatre Council has selected and proposed playwright and director Sandra Vujović as the new general director of this cultural institution, Vijesti has been confirmed.
The official announcement and decision of the Council are still expected, and Vijesti was told in an informal conversation yesterday that the decision will be formally and publicly announced today.
According to the Statute of the City Theatre, the director is elected by the Theatre Council based on a public competition, for a period of four years. The decision of the Theatre Council is approved by the founder, that is, the Assembly of the Capital City.
The current Council is chaired by Miloš Marović, and its members are Nina Strugar, Stevan Kandić, Marko Vujisić and Nikola Krstić from among the employees. They made the decision after conducting interviews with the candidates and submitting the documentation based on a public competition.
Sandra Vujović graduated from the Dramaturgy Department of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje in 2011. In addition to her profession as a dramaturg, Vujović is also a writer, screenwriter, director, and has experience working in the marketing sector. She is the author of several plays and screenplays, as well as the director of several theater plays.
She was one of three candidates in the Podgorica City Theatre's competition for the position of general director. In addition to her, the other candidates for the position were theatre critic Iva Čukić Šoškić and former director of the Tivat Cultural Centre Vojislav Vojo Kaluđerović, who is currently the head of the production department there.
