The exhibition "The Last Supper", accompanied by the performance "Vera Icona" by renowned Montenegrin multimedia artist Dimitrij Popović, opened in the exhibition space of the Gavella City Drama Theater in Zagreb on Monday evening, where it will be available until May 1st.

The exhibition is based on three themes of sacred events that marked Holy Week, and consists of two works: the triptych "The Mystery of the Holy Grail" and the installation "The Last Supper", inspired by the work of the same name. Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most important in the history of art.

This is a seemingly simple, but symbolically luxurious installation with which Popović opens a dialogue between the sacred and the secular, traditional and contemporary, image and movement, action and passivity.

A special highlight of the exhibition, as well as the opening ceremony, was the performance "Vera Icona", which was performed by a stage artist based on the author's concept. Maja BajamicAt the center of the performance is the motif of the archetypal act of a woman who does not turn her head.

"As a modern woman, she modernized the character of the anonymous heroine Veronica, whose name means true image. At the sixth station on the way to Golgotha, Veronica gave the edge of her scarf to the fallen Christ to wipe the blood, sweat, and dust from his painful face. The scarf miraculously imprinted an image of his, Christ's, face. It was a favorite motif of Renaissance and Baroque painters," Popović told Vijesti.

By focusing on Veronika's act, Popović reminds today's man of the importance of action, directing his gaze towards other people, towards empathy and coexistence.

The performance was accompanied by music composed especially for this occasion. Matej Mestrovic.

According to the author's idea, the exhibition space of the atrium of the Gavella City Drama Theatre was the most suitable for dramatic sacral themes, enriched with music and movement, so that through various visual media, harmony between the theme of the occasion and the ambience was achieved.
