The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro (MSUCG) announced that a public call for proposals will be launched at the end of May for the selection of a project that will represent Montenegro at the 61st Venice Biennale of Art.

This year, an international expert jury will decide on the selection of the best project.

"This confirms the commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, transparency and quality, but also the importance of representing Montenegro at this prestigious world festival of contemporary art. Participation in the Venice Biennale opens up space for the visibility and affirmation of the domestic art scene internationally," the statement said.

MSUCG invites all interested artists, curators and art collectives to prepare documentation for their project proposals in a timely manner and to follow the official information channels of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, where the public call will be published with all relevant information about the conditions and deadlines.

Montenegro will be presented at the 61st Biennial for the first time at the new location of the national pavilion, in the ArteNova gallery space, located in the attractive Venetian location of Campo San Lorenzo, which further strengthens the presence of our country at the heart of contemporary art movements.

The general sponsor of the Montenegrin performance is the Ministry of Culture and Media.

The theme of the next Biennale will be announced in early May 2025 on the official website of the Biennale di Venezia.

“You need an island to feel this good” is the title of the work by artist Darja Bajagić, with which Montenegro was represented at the Venice Art Biennale last year. The curator was Ana Simona Zelenovic.
