The captain of the English football team, Harry Kane, said that his team struggled, but deservedly beat Serbia at the European Championship.
"We knew it would be a difficult game, Serbia was threatening. The game was physically demanding, I think we handled it well. We deserved the victory, we want to get through the group," Kane told the BBC.
England beat Serbia 1:0 in Gelsenkirchen, in the first round of Group C at the European Championship.
"They changed the game in the second half, man to man and we couldn't keep the ball well enough. Every game without conceding a goal is important and it's good that we managed to do that today," said Kane.
One goal was scored by Jude Bellingham.
"Jude is an incredible player. He deserves all the praise, for the confidence with which he plays and influences the games. For players in his position, it is important that he scores goals and has assists," added Kane.
On Thursday, England will play Denmark in the second round, and Serbia will play Slovenia.
