England football team coach Gareth Southgate said he was satisfied with his team's performance in most of the match against Serbia at the European Championship.
England beat Serbia 1:0 in Gelsenkirchen, in the first round of Group C at the European Championship.
"They are a strong team. We had to suffer a little, which I think is good for us. I think we defended the penalty area well. I am satisfied with most of the game. In the second half, we did not keep the ball as much as I would have liked, but we achieved a very important win," Southgate told the BBC.
Jude Bellingham scored the only goal.
"He writes his own script. The timing of his runs was excellent even at the beginning of the action. I think all our attackers were good. I am convinced that we will score goals," said the English coach.
England is first in the table with three points, Denmark and Slovenia have one point each, and Serbia has no points.
On Thursday, England will play Denmark in the second round, and Serbia will play Slovenia.
