The coach of the Austrian football team, Ralf Rangnik, said that he was happy for the victory over Poland, but also for the performance of his team during most of the match.
Austria beat Poland yesterday in Berlin with 3:1, in the second round of Group D of the European Championship.
"Happy for the win, but also for the game in the greater part of the game. We started brilliantly and played in the first 20 minutes, and we were very good in the last half hour as well. Between those two periods there were phases when we gave up a bit. Poland came back and we had to work hard for the new leadership," said Rangnik, as reported by HINA.
In the first round, Austria was defeated by France (1:0), and in the last round they will play against the Netherlands.
"The second half was better and that's why we deserved to win. Now it's time to recover. We need to sleep well, eat well, replenish our energy reserves and hope that on Tuesday against the Netherlands we will be able to fight for a place in the round of 16. It's good that we are the masters of our destiny," added Rangnik.
Kristof Baumgartner, the scorer of the second goal for Austria, said that the team was under a lot of pressure before the match against Poland.
"We are all very happy. We were under a lot of pressure, there was a lot of nervousness. This is a great relief, but we know that it is only the beginning and that we have big challenges ahead of us. We beat Germany in the preparations and we have a really good period behind us so people quickly became euphoric, but we were always aware of our situation. We know how good we are. It would be a shame if we lost," said Baumgartner.
