The president of the Croatian Football Association, Marijan Kustić, said today that Zlatko Dalić will remain the coach of the national team.
At the press conference after the match against Italy (1:1) and the elimination from the European Championship in Germany, Dalić took responsibility for the result in the competition and it was uncertain whether he would remain the coach.
As reported by Jutarnji list, Kustić said that "the pain is present", but that he should raise his head and move on.
"He is the selector and will remain the selector of the Croatian national football team. We talked and shook hands. He remains, I can reveal exclusively," Kustić told Croatian television Nova.
Croatia conceded goals against Italy and Albania in stoppage time.
"It's difficult when you concede a goal in stoppage time. In the game with Albania, in the first half we showed that we wanted three points. But, in the second half, unfortunately, we conceded that goal in the 95th minute. After everything, we came back against Italy and played a great game, but unfortunately in the 98th minute, in the last second we would say, we conceded a goal. It hurts a lot," said Kustić.
He was asked about captain Luka Modrić, who could end his national team career.
"I hope that he will be here, that he will continue to wear the armband in the League of Nations and at the World Cup," added the president of the Croatian federation.
