Georgian footballers achieved a historic result at the European Championship in Germany.
In their first appearance at a major competition after the collapse of the Soviet Union, former French national team player Willy Sagnol's men made it to the round of 16 despite all forecasts.
In group F, they are at the start, despite a great performance, they were defeated by Turkey 3:1, then they played 1:1 with the Czech Republic, and in the third match they achieved a historic triumph against Portugal (2:0).
This earned them a place in the second stage and a meeting with the powerful Spain, in which they also did not lose heart, despite a heavy defeat of 4:1.
They took the lead in the first half, put the selection that, according to many, is the main favorite to win the European Championship, into trouble. "Furija" only broke the resistance of Hviča Kvarachelija and his friends at the finish line.
For a great performance at the Euro, the Georgian footballers were rewarded with a spectacular welcome in Tbilisi.
The streets around Freedom Square were filled with tens of thousands of fans, and the players were welcomed on stage by President Salome Zourabishvili and awarded each with the Order of Honor, one of the highest honors in the country.
