Spain celebrates, Germany is in tears after the first leg of the Euro quarterfinals.
Mikel Merino scored a 2:1 goal in the 119th minute to "Red Fury" to reach the semi-finals.
"I have 26 players at my disposal and each one is equally important. The goal for 1:1 was a big blow for us, but we reacted. We insisted on going forward and the reward came when Merino scored," Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said.
Germany has been waiting for the title since 1996, they will wait more.
"We deservedly equalized, and then conceded a goal in practically the last attack of the game. I told the players that they didn't deserve to be relegated - we had a great atmosphere for the last six weeks and it's clear to me that we all gave everything we had," said Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
It was also a painful end to the career of the legendary Toni Kroos, who said goodbye to football.
"He is a player whose career you cannot overestimate, no matter what you say - it is little. Toni is unique, Germany did not have such a player. He had a touching talk with the team after everything and I know this is especially difficult for him," added Nagelsman.
