The European Football Union (UEFA) is very satisfied with this year's European Championship in Germany, which will end with the final between Spain and England on Sunday in Berlin.
"A good host, good games and especially good fans," said Uefa competition director Martin Cullen, but highlighted one "very disturbing thing".
"We are very, very satisfied with how the tournament went. In Germany, we had an incredible number of fans from all over Europe who peacefully came to Germany and celebrated and cheered on their teams. The organization was very, very good. The matches were good, there were several surprises," said Kalen in Munich at a reception in honor of the volunteers.
However, there were problems with transportation and the German railways "Deutsche Bahn" (DB).
"They've been known to have problems for a long time. But as you could see, there are a lot of trains," Kallen said.
During the Euros, DB was repeatedly criticized for its lack of performance. Just this week, the Dutch team had to travel from Wolfsburg to Dortmund (about 300 kilometers) by plane, instead of by train, due to a short-term cancellation of the train for the semi-finals.
However, Kalen took the train the whole time and made sure to arrive at his destination at least three hours early.
"Then I adjusted a bit. Sometimes it's a bit uncomfortable, but the range of trains is really big and varied."
Another part of the disturbing story, according to Cullen, was "Ronaldomania".
"Cristiano Ronaldo as a superstar just electrified people so much that they really wanted to take a 'selfie' with him. And there were quite a few who rushed onto the field to do it, even though they knew what the consequences would be," added Cullen.
