The European Parliament (EP) today adopted a decision on the complete abolition of roaming charges for mobile phones from June 2017, as well as clear rules on the right to access the Internet.

"Everyone has been waiting a long time for this abolition of roaming charges - ordinary people, companies and all kinds of organizations," said European Parliament rapporteur Pilar del Castillo in a debate ahead of the vote.

She added that, thanks to that agreement, Europe will become the only region in the world where there will be legal guarantees for an open Internet and the neutrality of the global information network, reports Capital.ba.

"The principle of neutrality will be applied directly in 28 member states. This will ensure that we don't have two-speed internet," said Castillo.

Roaming charges for phone calls, sending text messages and using mobile internet abroad in European Union (EU) countries will be prohibited from June 15, 2017.

The new law prohibits Internet providers from intentionally blocking or slowing down the delivery of certain content, applications or services for certain users, unless they have to comply with a court order, the provisions of the law, to prevent network congestion or to suppress a cyber-attack.
