An old dilapidated house in Ozrinići, Nikšić, is the birthplace of the great Montenegrin and Yugoslav director Živko Nikolić.
To restore it and turn it into a significant point on the Montenegrin cultural map, none other than the son of the famous director thought of it. Petar Nikolić doesn't hold anything against anyone, he believes that time has been masterfully arranged and that the right moment has come.
"I think that this is now a sufficient time distance in relation to his life and his work, so that we can look at everything beautifully and objectively and do something that, in my opinion, will be only the beginning in an acceptance and protection of Živko as a cultural value". says Petar Nikolić.
That is why Petar plans to build a museum complex in Ozrinići, his native area, which Živko immortalized in his films. It would be a place for ordinary people, but also for filmmakers, and every camera switching on would be experienced as a kind of homage to the director.
"Bringing people to film here. It's my dream and idea that people inspired by Živko's example come and shoot some footage here. I know that many of Živko's localities have been exploited on film, so it's so interesting that Ljubiša Samaržić deliberately brought people to more recently, where he and Živka filmed Tempting the Devil".
The realization of these ideas meets the triple jubilee. The following year marks the 75th anniversary of the director's birth and 15 years since his death, and in addition, the thirtieth edition of the Herzegovinian film festival will be held, where an award named after the director will be awarded.
It is expected that the next winner will erect a statue with Živko's image, but also that the Ozrinići will receive a monument. In this, his son expects the support of those who love the seventh art, but also those who have money and power.
"He was a modest man and did not ask, as he himself said, for solemn funerals with music, but I think he deserves, both for himself and for the sake of generations to come, to have a monument standing in front of which someone can worship his shadow and have it as a lasting example." , said Peter.
The character of Živko Nikolić will once again look at the Treješanj vrt, where the director took his first steps and then took his shots.
Peter's intentions are only partially supported by Maksim Vujačić, a publicist and chronicler of the Nikšić region. He is of the opinion that the monument does not fit into Živko's poetics.
"I was happy with the initiative to make his house a memorial room, but if he heard that someone was erecting a monument to him in front of his native house in his native Ozrinići, if I had the opportunity to meet him, I think he would have run away regardless," says Vujačić.
And the people, in whose name he made one of his iconic films, only have a positive opinion about the idea.
The vice president of the municipality of Nikšić, Milorad Jovanović, said that, after two years of waiting, a board with the name of Živka Nikolić will soon appear in a location in the center of Nikšić. He also said that support for the memorial center in Ozrinići will not be lacking, but that funds will be discussed at the upcoming collegium.
