The opening of two new negotiation chapters is a recognition of the enormous work, effort and commitment of all institutions and individuals who worked on those chapters, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Igor Lukšić.
At today's Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg, Montenegro opened negotiations in two more chapters 9 and 21, which relate to financial services and trans-European networks.
With these two chapters, Montenegro has opened a total of 20, of which, as Lukšić reminded, two are temporarily closed.
"Today's opening of these two chapters is a recognition of the enormous work, effort and dedication of all institutions and individuals who worked within these chapters. It also brings us one step closer to EU membership and, more importantly, closer to the European quality of life." , said Lukšić, at the Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg.
As he stated, it is a great success for the country and the entire society, especially if you take into account that Montenegro has been negotiating for only three years.
"I am convinced that all the efforts we have undertaken so far on the European path have shown that Montenegro is a trustworthy partner, a country with a sincere and steadfast European orientation," Lukšić said.
He said that he will continue on that path in the coming period, with the same quality and pace, but not because of EU membership, but because of a higher goal - a better life for citizens.
According to Lukšić, in Chapter 9 - Financial services, Montenegro will continue with further harmonization with European regulations in the field of banking, insurance and reinsurance, pension funds and the capital market, which will contribute to the regulation of their operations and improve the protection of consumers of financial services.
"When it comes to Chapter 21, the Trans-European Network, through this area we will continue to work on improving our road and energy network and, in that direction, better connecting with the region and EU member states," Lukšić said.
As he stated, he is satisfied with the successfully held XNUMXth meeting of the Council for Stabilization and Association.
"The meeting was an opportunity to consider important issues arising from the implementation process of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, such as Montenegro's EU Accession Strategy - in the light of the EC Report on the Progress of Montenegro for 2014 - and the dynamics of the implementation of legislative and institutional reforms in Montenegro in the context of the accession process," Lukšić said.
The meeting, he added, was also an opportunity to exchange views with European partners on the development of events in the Western Balkans and the modalities of using pre-accession support in the EU accession process.
