The mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vuković, said that he had sent a letter to all city companies about the layoff of 10 to 30 percent of workers, but that he would decide on it after receiving feedback.
At the press conference after three months of managing the capital, he confirmed that there is interest in the former Beko department store, and said that he would not be happier if a shopping mall, hotel or congress center were built in its place.
Vuković announced that the collector will still be ready by the end of his mandate and that he will support a water price increase if the profession says it is necessary. In addition to Josip Broz Tito, the people of Podgorica may also receive a monument to Ivan Crnojević next year.
The first man of Podgorica confirmed that he has sent a letter from the Ministry of Public Administration to all city companies in which they request a reduction in the number of employees from 10 to 30%, and a decision will be made on this when they review the situation.
"A letter was sent to us with a request and a suggestion to consider the possibility that a number of people working in the capital leave their jobs, and I automatically forwarded that letter to the city services, that's my contribution to the plan to lay off 30% of people and it was not said 30%, but it was said from 10 to 30%," Vuković pointed out.
It is also true that the Belgian Besiks group is interested in building a building on the site of the former Beko department store in the center of Podgorica. When asked by Vijesti television how serious it is for a shopping mall to spring up there, given the heavy traffic, Vuković answered as follows:
"I couldn't be happier, I'll tell you that. Life has literally moved out of the city center and we are trying to revive the city center because that is our primary responsibility. It was not said that there will be a shopping mall, there is interest in maybe having some hotel facilities , or a mini congress center, that will be decided by the profession. Podgorica in the city center deserves a more representative facility," said Vuković.
Although he previously said that he could not promise that the wastewater treatment system would be completed during his term, the mayor is now more optimistic...
"The projects in question are expensive, but I expect the projects that we will implement completely realistically by the end of the mandate of this city administration," said Vuković.
And while the opposition constantly thinks that Vodovod has excess workers due to party recruitment, Vuković says that this is not true, but that they will need more workers due to the construction of a new collector.
"If there are surpluses, we will act responsibly," said the mayor of Podgorica
And if the profession says that the price of water in Podgorica should rise by about 23%, the mayor will approve that as well.
"No matter how unpopular I am, I will support it," Vuković is clear.
He admits that public transport is a big problem of the city and that they will try to improve it by creating an electronic card.
They are also thinking about alternative modes of transportation, bicycles, which would be available to Podgorica residents in several locations.
The monument to Josip Broz Tito will be erected soon, and as things stand now, apart from Cetinje, the capital will also get a monument to Ivan Crnojević. There is already an initiative for that.
"It could be realized during the next year. The city administration intends to adequately pay tribute to those historical figures who, in different time periods, were the most responsible for what is today's Montenegro," said Vuković.
At the conference on the occasion of his three months at the head of the city, Vuković also announced the reconstruction of the old road towards Danilovgrad next year.
