Numerous hotels, apartments and restaurants are located on the shores of Port Milena in Ulcinj. Nevertheless, thousands of tourists inhaled the smell of sewage this season as well. He will not take home a good impression from this place.
"This smell is neither for citizens of Ulcinj nor for tourists. To tell you the truth, I would not come again," says Ismet Kito, a tourist from Kosovo.
"It stinks here, it stinks. But what surprises me, there are fish in this water, although this smell that spreads is not good," said Zebi, a tourist from Poland.
Restaurateurs are also bothered by the fact that Port Milena has been an environmental bomb for years and that there are no concrete steps to solve this burning problem, except for promises.
"It bothers us all, when it bothers the guests, of course it bothers us too. We have been waiting for years for this problem to be solved. Foreign guests complain a lot and go to other settlements," said Arber Hadžibrahimi, owner of a hotel.
The Green Step NGO has been advocating for the revitalization of Port Milena for years, but they believe that there is not enough will to solve this problem.
"According to the regulations, no restaurant should be allowed to work here. It cannot get a license, but everything is tolerated here. Port Milena, instead of being a brand, not only from Ulcinj, but from Montenegro, is a regional brand for attracting guests. has become a septic tank. The state, the relevant ministries, the Municipality, Morsko dobro, are not taking any action," said Dželjaj Hodžić from the NGO Green Step.
The Municipality of Ulcinj announced that the long-awaited tender for the construction of a sewage network for the settlements of Kodre, Bijela Gora, Totoši and Bratica has been announced, and that with the completion of that project, the problem will be solved, because the sewage discharges from those settlements flowed directly into the Port canal. Milena.
"If that sewage network is only going to collect that waste water and discharge it again into Port Milena, we have not done anything. We need to work on a system for purifying waste water," added Hodžić.
The local government has repeatedly reiterated that the rehabilitation of the Port Milena canal is inadvisable until the sewerage network for the mentioned settlements is built. A loan for this, in the amount of about five million, was obtained from the European Investment Bank.
