The Faculty of Philosophy and Philology in Nikšić will finally be able to open its doors wide for all students with disabilities from the next school year.
Works on adapting the facility for people with limited mobility and impaired vision and hearing are coming to an end, and an access ramp, elevator and signage in Braille have been completed. As part of the project financed by the World Bank, the same works are planned at several other faculties.
After more than two years of entering the faculty from the sidelines, third-year sociology student Blagoje Šturanović will attend lectures on an equal footing with other colleagues. The main entrance of the Faculty of Philosophy and Philology received a suitable ramp.
"It was difficult because we could only be in one cabinet and that at the back entrance to the faculty. This means a lot to me because now I have freedom of movement in the faculty, unhindered functioning, and I can also participate in some extracurricular activities and achieve better communication with colleagues ", pointed out Blagoje Šturanović, a sociology student.
The other few students with limited mobility and impaired vision and hearing will also be able to do this, because the institution receives all the necessary conditions. The works have entered the final stage.
"Tactile tapes have been made, all the rooms have markings where the visually impaired can read which classrooms and which study program they are in, an elevator has been made, everything that according to European standards is provided for such persons", said Goran Barović, dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.
Barović says that due to the unavailability of the facility, in previous years there were students who avoided enrolling in the Faculty of Philosophy and Philology, so he is pleased that they finally opened the doors to them.
"After many years of promises, we have finally regulated that problem, so we are entering the next year fully equipped," said Barović.
"I think that only the Faculty of Economics is currently available according to the regulations, and here will be ours, so I hope that it will be an example for other faculties and not only faculties, but also for other institutions," said Šturanović.
The same works financed from the World Bank loan are planned for three other faculties - Faculty of Law and Civil Engineering in Podgorica and Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management in Kotor.
"The total amount was 220.000, half of which was used for these two faculties of ours," said Barović.
The job of adaptation for people with disabilities awaits elementary schools in Nikšić, only a few of which have access ramps and toilets, while none of them have all the elements of accessibility.
