Podgorica recently received its first specialized tourist guides, who underwent training organized by the capital.

The number of tourists in Podgorica is growing, so there is a real need to bring the most important points closer to them.

About 30 tourists from Slovenia came to get to know Podgorica.

And the tourist guide's story begins like this: "Podgorica, as we know it today, was mentioned for the first time in the 14th century, however the territory of Podgorica itself was inhabited much, much earlier", says Dušan Drakić, tourist guide.

Drakić is one of the tourist guides who recently underwent training organized by the Capital City.

Its starting point for tourists was the Clock Tower, which in itself hides an interesting story.

"As the Montenegrins were mostly in the surrounding hills, they constantly used the clock to see when it was prayer time and then invaded the Ottoman territory until one day the local vizier realized what it was about and ordered the clock itself to be removed," Drakić said. .

This was followed by a tour of the Skender Čauš mosque in the Old Town, as well as the remains of the Depodogen fortress at the confluence of Ribnica and Morač, from where the development of the city began.

Slovenians were also interested in the recent history of Podgorica, after the Second World War, but also in the monuments to King Nikola, Njegoš and Marko Miljanov.

That Podgorica is becoming more and more interesting to foreigners is also shown by the fact that from the beginning of the year to March 31, over 32.500 tourists visited the capital, which is 42 percent more compared to the same period last year.

The good geographical position of Podgorica also contributes to this.

"From Podgorica, you can reach anywhere in Montenegro in two hours, so it is an ideal base for active tourists," said Drakić.

The group we were with saw only a small part of what Podgorica has to offer, as there are archaeological sites in the area as well as the natural beauty of the Skadar Lake and the Cijevna River.

The visit to Podgorica, as they say, awakened special memories for the Slovenes of the common country, Yugoslavia.

Some of them also said that they could easily get used to life in the capital of Montenegro because, as they explain, its rhythm suits them.
