Lim flows in the sea of faeces. This is how the residents of the Bjelopolje village of Nikoljac, through which this river flows, describe the problem they have been facing for three months.
Due to a burst sewer pipe near their houses, they live in fear of infection. At the very entrance to the city, under the road bridge on the new route of the bypass, a garbage dump has also been formed in the meantime, and they are asking the authorities to urgently rehabilitate that area.
The municipality says that they expect a permanent solution after the construction of the collector, the implementation of which has just begun.
With the withdrawal of the water level of Lim, the problems of the residents of the Bjelopolje settlement Nikoljac began. In place of the embankment washed away by the water in the recent floods, several sewage pipes have appeared, from which faeces come out onto the shore of the city's main beach. Due to the rupture of one of the pipes under the road bridge on the new bypass route near their houses, they have been living in fear of infection for three months, as they say.
"I am outraged. This is an ideal place for a potential infection, not small but of an epidemiological scale. This is a very, very strong source of faecal masses," said Dušan Mujović, a resident of Nikoljac.
"Sewage here, sewage here, sewage down there, it stinks. This is where the children of Bjelo Polje play," said Senad Korać, a resident of Nikoljec.
But the spilling of the pipe onto the shore, which created a lake of feces, is the only reason for the fear of the residents of Nikoljec. In the meantime, a landfill was formed in this place, from which an unbearable stench spreads.
"You can't pass here. A normal person can't walk. Whoever has something from the city to shake comes here with a truck to these locations towards Pripcici and shakes," said Korać.
"Trucks, haulers full of waste, bones, earth, rubble come day and night. Whatever works in the inner city and outside the city, they come here and throw that garbage," Mujović said.
That is why they are asking the authorities to urgently repair the sewage network and ban garbage disposal. The municipality is also aware of the problems with the sewage system. However, as they say, they expect a permanent solution after the construction of the collector, the realization of which has only just begun. The locals of Nikoljec call for patience and promise to rehabilitate this ecological black spot.
"The very course of the Lima River did something that, with the arrival of that water and heavy rainfall, probably caused the movement of that sewage system. We will certainly go at the request of those locals to see what it is, to allow us access to that locality, considering that the work is being done and on inaccessible terrain to work directly under those buildings or properties of certain households, and we will certainly finish it in a short period of time", said Senad Pačariz from the Municipality of Bijelo Polje.
However, according to the promise of the local authorities, the residents of Nikoljec will not wait long. If, as they say, this mockery and black face of the city near their houses is not removed in the next ten days, they are announcing protests.
