The initiative to declare former German Ambassador to Montenegro Gudrun Elizabeth Steinaker an honorary citizen of Ulcinj, although it is fully supported by the public and political parties operating in Ulcinj, has not yet formally taken off.
And while assurances are coming from the Parliamentary Committee for Elections and Appointments that such an act requires a change in the statute of the Municipal Assembly, because it is a foreign citizen, SDP and the civil sector easily deny this.
"He doesn't drink water, because both Edi Rama and Tači are honorary citizens," says Dr. Martin Šnajder Jakobi, president of the Society, to TV Vijesti Zenepa Lika.
"I think these are explanations that are formally ridiculous," says Skender Elezagić, president of the OO SDP Ulcinj.
The SDP, which launched this initiative a few months ago, claims that it does not correspond to some powerful structures close to the DPS.
"The political entities that currently lead the municipality of Ulcinj are not independent in making their decisions, but they are influenced by some informal power centers outside Ulcinj. The DPS officially supported that initiative, but probably some structures close to the DPS, to whom the decision was intended of the area of the Saltworks does not change, it certainly does not fit because it involves significant material resources," says Skender Elezagić, president of OO SDP Ulcinj.
In the civil sector, they are convinced that the initiative to declare former German ambassador Gudrun Elizabeth Steinaker an honorary citizen of Ulcinj will still be implemented.
"If there is a person who deserves to be an honorary citizen of Ulcinj, then it is the former ambassador," Lika believes.
