These five diseases are most often transmitted by kissing:
1. Any respiratory virus - colds, flu, mumps and rubella. But although these diseases can be contracted by kissing, they are also transmitted by coughing, sneezing and touching.
2. Mononucleosis - also called kissing disease. It is most often caused by the Epstein-Barr virus and is accompanied by severe fatigue and flu-like symptoms. People between the ages of 15 and 30 are most often affected.
3. Herpes simplex virus 1 - it is oral herpes that causes infection of the lips, oral cavity and face. It is usually transmitted by kissing, but also by contaminated food, drink, and coughing and sneezing.
4. Cytomegalovirus - is part of the herpes family. Usually, our body can fight it, so we don't even know we have that virus in our body, but if our immunity is weakened, then we will feel the symptoms. Fever, fatigue and muscle pain are the most common symptoms, but rarely it can cause seizures, pneumonia, encephalitis and vision problems.
5. Group A streptococci - easily treated with antibiotics, but if left untreated it can lead to pneumonia.
