"The great heritage of the past has been preserved and nurtured in an organized manner in Tivat for almost 130 years, and for centuries before that by the hearths. We, as the continuers of that tradition, had a greater task, the task of nurturing what was the heritage of many peoples and nationalities of Yugoslavia at the time, and we have been doing this successfully since 1950, when the first organized steps to establish such an ensemble began," said the well-known journalist and publicist from Tivat, Mašo Čekić, opening on Friday evening in the gallery of summer house Buća-Luković, a commemorative exhibition dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the establishment and work of the local Cultural and Artistic Society "Boka".
KUD "Boka" is one of the most active folklore ensembles in Montenegro, they have a large number of members of all generations, and they often perform in the country and abroad. At the exhibition itself, in addition to photographs that tell about the history of the society, various ethnological exhibits and props of the ensemble are shown.
"It started from scratch - we had good will, military shirts, but we played and held concerts. We traveled, played and enjoyed the joy of traveling, the joy of performing in other countries, we felt honor and pride because we were chosen to represent our country. Thank you very much to everyone who participated in the work of our ensemble all these years, they are all equally responsible for the success and duration of 40 years. And in a person's life, the forties are the best years", pointed out Čekić, who was also the soloist of KUD "Boka" for many years.
Dubravka Nikčević, secretary of the Secretariat for Culture and Social Activities of the Municipality of Tivat, greeted the numerous people gathered at the exhibition. She emphasized that in the current five-year cultural development plan, the local administration gave a special place and status to intangible cultural heritage, which includes folklore.
"We also gave a significant advantage to nurturing tradition and cultural heritage in Tivat by giving priority to three traditional organizations, the Bokel Navy, the Tivat Music and Education Society and the Boka KUD, giving them a special status and stronger support when financing NGOs. "KUD Boka has worked very hard for these 40 years and has become a benchmark for similar organizations, both in terms of organization and artistic and performing", said Nikčević.
