You must have already heard that it is not advisable to share a toothbrush, razor, shower sponge, deodorant and towel with other people because it can cause various health problems. Two more things that we often borrow should be added to this list, according to the portal razvodna.hr.
1. Soap.
"The risk of infection is lower if your soap is used by people with whom you are in direct physical contact every day."
After each use, the soap is covered with living organisms from your skin, from harmless bacteria to serious pathogens that people carry on themselves, said Dr. Whitney Bowe, American dermatologist.
Even when it comes to antibacterial soap, you must be aware that it alone is not strong enough to effectively destroy all bacteria. We store it in a moist and wet environment, which makes it easier for bacteria, fungi and viruses to 'grow' on its surface.
Experts agree that the risk of infection is much lower if your soap is used by people with whom you are in direct physical contact on a daily basis, such as children or partners because your body is used to the bacterial flora of those people. However, they still advise that your soap is for your personal use only.
2. Headphones.
"Toothbrush, razor, shower sponge, deodorant and towel should not be shared with other people."
This refers to mini earphones that are placed in the ear, not on the outside of the ear. Research has shown that a large number of bacteria from the inside of the ear collect on them. Their development is accelerated if you use them while exercising because the addition of heat and moisture favors the further accumulation of bacteria.
When you share headphones, bacteria such as staphylococcus or streptococcus can remain in the wax inside your ear and cause infections. If you really have to lend them to someone else, wipe them with alcohol afterwards, advises Dr. Bowe.
