The world champion in the heavyweight category of professional boxing, the British Tyson Fury, voluntarily gave up all championship belts. Until today, Fury was the owner of the WBA and WBO championship belts, while the IBF and IBO had previously officially stripped the Briton of the championship belts, which he did not defend within the stipulated time.
"I feel that the benefit of the entire boxing is that the titles are active and that other fighters have the opportunity to earn in the ring, but also to defend the vacant belts. I proudly won them and wore them as undefeated, taking them with a victory over the long-time owner Vladimir Klitschko. I won the titles in the ring and I believe that they should be earned or lost in the ring, but now I am not able to defend them and therefore I had to make an emotionally difficult decision to release them officially," the 28-year-old boxer emphasized.
He twice postponed the contractual rematch with the Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko, the first time due to injury and then due to depression, after which the tests showed that he was positive for cocaine. Fury defeated Klitschko unanimously on November 28 last year in Dusseldorf, which was his 25th victory in as many matches.
"I wish the contenders for the titles good luck, and I need time to fight in another big test in my life. I am sure that I will overcome all problems, just as I fought against Klitschko," announced Fury, who is being treated for depression.
