Heavyweight boxer Andy Ruiz Jr. withdrew today from the fight with Huey Fury, which was supposed to take place in the opening of the rematch for the championship title between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury.
Ruiz has a professional performance of 29 wins without defeat and 19 knockouts. He easily defeated Franklin Lawrence two weeks ago, and came out of that fight completely unscathed, and last night he did not offer any reasons for giving up the fight.
The winner of the Ruiz - Fury duel would become the mandatory challenger for the WBO belt, which will be decided in the main fight on October 29.
In the main fight, champion Tyson Fury will defend the belts he unexpectedly won last November against longtime champion Klitschko. Tyson and Huey are half brothers.
The opening fights for one of the biggest matches of the year were additionally shortened like this. For now, it is known that the WBO middleweight champion, Billy Joe Saunders, should perform, but the name of his opponent is still unknown.
The only intact fight for now is the one in which Oville McKenzie is to defend his European championship belt against Craig Kennedy.
Mackenzie, however, is currently ill, which is why he withdrew from his fight with Muarem Hukić this Sunday, so his match on October 29 is also in doubt.
