One of the copies of the first collection of the works of the English writer William Shakespeare from 1623 was sold today in London at an auction for 1.874.000 pounds (2.450.000 euros), the Christie house announced.
The collection was purchased by a private collector in the USA as well as copies of the next three editions from 1632, 1664 and 1685.
The anthology contains 36 works by Shakespeare (1564-1616), who is considered the greatest writer in the English language and a world-renowned playwright.
The opus of Shakespeare's works that have survived to this day consists of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narratives and several other poems.
His plays have been translated into many living languages and are performed all over the world.
