British heavyweight world boxing champion Tyson Fury was not punished for his controversial statements about women and gays, the British Boxing Board of Control announced today.
However, the Board admonished Fury and reminded him that he should avoid such statements, unrelated to boxing, because he "holds the most prestigious title in the sport."
"Fury assured the Board that he understands the responsibility he has taken on. He regrets the statements about abortion and homosexuals and adds that it was not his intention to offend anyone," the statement said.
Fury made the insults before the fight with Wladimir Klitschko on November 28, and then they were repeated after the fight.
In a statement, the board added that Fury did not violate the law on freedom of expression.
