A drama about a Sarajevo family that was scattered around the world by the war: "Flour in the Veins"

"In the Balkans, where wars create history, geography, economy, culture, politics, education, trauma becomes a national treasure, identity - a political tool, tradition - education. This is the drama that its heroes have been waiting for for decades. The drama of return, meeting, talking, guilt, overcoming, unraveling and finally reconciliation", are the words of Boris Liješević, the director of the play "Flour in the Veins", which was performed by the actors of the Sarajevo War Theater and the International Theater Festival MESS as part of the competition part of the XII International Festival of Actors in Nikšić.

The story of a family from Sarajevo that was scattered around the world by the war of the 20s and which after more than XNUMX years meets again is the story of all of us to whom, according to the author of the text, Igor Štiks, "the boomerang of the past always returns".

"We must learn to catch that boomerang before it hurts us again, not to throw it away and forget it, but to prevent it from crippling our future," said the author of the drama that has been in the making for years.

Actors Miki Trifunov, Kaća Dorić, Izudin Bajrović, Admir Glamočak, Selma Alispahić and Jasenko Pašić, at the round table after the play, said that "Brašno u venema" is a drama of confrontation, a story about war and its consequences told through the life of a family.

“This family is no more interesting than any other family that came out of the war. Anyone who digs a little will see that such families are everywhere and that the only question is whether they will collapse or continue. Throughout the history of numerous wars, families were always torn apart and we always had to gather from scratch. It seems that we need extremes to find out who is who," Pašić said.

Miki Trifunov believes that "it is the fate of the past, the fate that determines our life".

"This is a story about the Sarajevo apocalypse that was deeply experienced. All our war plays have that link with reality. Even though it is a tumor topic, if nothing else this story of ours is a warning," said Trifunov and added that success is when you manage to keep the audience's attention for an hour and a half and tell a story in silence.

"Something happened emotionally, there was a strange catharsis," said Trifunov.

Selma Alispahić pointed out that in the aforementioned play everyone finds at least one segment with which he or someone from his family can identify.

“There is no escape from the wounds of the past. It's an everyday story, and the sooner we understand it, the sooner we'll forgive and move on. My revelation was just that when I realized that it is everyday. "In this play, there is stripping and digging into the depths, people touched by war and aggression become a kind of theatrical family," said Alispahić.

Her words were confirmed by Kaća Dorić, who added that she loved the family from the play so much that they became her family even off the stage, while Admir Glamočak said that the topic, which is so real, touches everyone deeply.

"The character I play is a character that has to wait longer than others. It is about a man who only functions from the background and when he is in the foreground he runs away to where he belongs. This is precisely the strength of that character", said Izudin Bajrović.

Tonight at 20 p.m. the actors of the Montenegrin National Theater will perform the play "Hilarious Tragedy", directed by Veljko Mićunović based on the text by Dušan Kovačević. The play features Ana Vujošević, Mladen Nelević, Vule Marković, Nada Vukčević, Branimir Popović, Branka Stanić, Mete Jovanovski, Mišo Obradović and Momo Pićurić.

Tomorrow evening, the actors of the Drama Theater from Skopje will present themselves to the Nikšić audience with the play "The Last Macedonians". The text and direction are by Sašo Milenovski, while the roles are played by Biljana Beličanec Aleksić, Sanja Arsovska, Biljana Dragićević Projkovska, Trajanka Ilieva, Rubens Muratovski, Zoran Ljutkov and Igor Angelov.

Grand prix for Alispahić and Jovanovski

After the play "Brašno u venema", the director of the Nikšić Theater, Zoran Bulajić, presented the grand prize for the best partnership, which was awarded to Selma Alispahić and Met Jovanski by the jury of the XNUMXth International Festival of Actors. According to Bulajić, the aforementioned award was waiting for the actors who were not able to receive it at the time.

Alispahić and Jovanovski were awarded for the roles of Miss Fischer and Picasso in the play "One Picasso" produced by the Sarajevo War Theater. The play, based on the text by Džefri Hačer, was directed by Ljiljana Todorović.
