Twelve nominations each for musicals

The Broadway musicals "American in Paris" and "Fun Home" each received 12 nominations for the Tony Award, whose award ceremony will be held on June 7 in New York.

Inspired by the film and musical of the same name by George Gershwin from 1957, the play "American in Paris" is, according to the authors, adapted to the present time.

The romantic story of a young American soldier, a charming French woman and a European town where everyone longs for a new beginning after the tragedies of war is the stuff Broadway dreams are made of.

The pieces "Something Rotten!", "The Visit" and "Finding Neverland" adaptation of the work "Peter Pan" also received nominations for the best musical. In the best play category, the plays "Wolf Hall,

Parts One and Two", "Hand to God", "Disgraced" and "Fish in the Dark".

Bradley Cooper, Ben Mile, Alex Sharp and Bill Nighy are nominated for the best actor in a play, while Carey Mulligan, Helen Mirren, Genevieve Carr and Elisabeth Moss will compete for the best actress award. The nominations were announced by actors Mary-Louise Parker and Bruce Willis. The Tony Award, established 69 years ago, is awarded for achievements in the work of the American theater. The awards, which are awarded by a jury of 700 members, are considered the equivalent of the Oscars, Emmys and Grammys.
