Bolt: Gay should be kicked out of athletics

Six-time Olympic champion and world record holder Jamaican Usain Bolt said today that American Tyson Gay should be kicked out of athletics due to doping.

In 2013, Gay was caught using anabolic steroids and was only suspended for a year for cooperating with an investigation by the US Anti-Doping Agency.

He has returned to competition and is expected to run at the World Championships in Beijing this summer.

"I was really upset about that. He got a year's ban just because he cooperated with the officials and talked about how he doped and who helped him. It sends the wrong message - if you get caught, just tell us everything you know and we'll you reduce the sentence. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," Bolt said, British media reported.

"The message to such people should be - if you cheat, you will be thrown out of the sport," added the Olympic champion and world record holder at 100 and 200 meters.

Bolt stated that he was not looking forward to competing against Gay.

"It really bothers me. Not because I'm worried about him beating me, but because I've had a lot of respect for him over the years. He was a real competitor and always pushed me to do my best. And then I found out he used doping and I'm disappointed. I feel he's let me down and he's let the sport down," Bolt said.

"You have to make the athletes afraid, make them think about the consequences of their actions. If they are getting light punishments - why should they care," added Bolt.
