Most heart attacks in public places in France occur at train stations due to the stress of train travel, French scientists have said.
"The frequency of heart attacks is higher at train stations due to the irrational fear that the passenger will be late for the train. This fear is called siderodromophobia," the scientists stated, as reported by France 2 television.
Passengers are exposed to large crowds at train stations, which causes many people to experience stress that can lead to heart attacks. Scientists therefore advise that defibrillators, devices that are used in case of cardiac arrest, be installed at train stations.
The French travel more by train than by bus, especially on long-distance routes because high-speed trains (TGV) operate on those lines.
