The ninth edition of the Cup of Montenegro for volleyball players did not bring any surprises - after easily defeating Budućnost (3:0) in the semifinals yesterday, Budva Riviera defeated Volej Star from Nikšić 3:0 in the final in Bijelo Polje tonight (25:15, 25 :21, 25:14).
Thus, Budva reached the sixth consecutive trophy in this competition in independent Montenegro (the first three cups were won by Budućnost). Budva have two trophies in the Cup of SR Yugoslavia in 2001 and 2002.
"We were declared the favorites for this tournament for a reason. We justified that in the semifinals and finals, and I congratulate my team for the well-played matches. I think we deservedly won the trophy," said Budva Riviera coach Slobodan Boškan.
Volej Star, which was better than the home team Jedinstva in the semi-final, achieved the greatest success in the club's history, as it was the first time it reached the final of a domestic competition.
"I congratulate my boys on the great fight, on everything achieved this season. This is indeed a great success for our young club, and it should be an incentive for us to continue our work. As for the final, Budva Riviera deservedly won the trophy, their the victory was never in question. In the semi-finals, we played a difficult and tiring match against the home team Jedinstvo, my team was emotionally and physically exhausted. We tried to match Budva at certain moments, I hope we succeeded, but how As the match progressed, the quality of Budva came to the fore," said coach Volej Stara Vladimir Đokić.
As for the match itself, the people of Nikšić took a 2:1 lead in the first set, after which Budvanska Riviera reversed the 4:0 series to 5:2. Until 13:11 Volej Star somehow resisted, but the Montenegrin champion "escaped" on Ječmenica's serve at 22:11 and eliminated all dilemmas.
In the second set, Budva led from the beginning, 8:4 at the first technical time-out, 16:13 at the second, they also had 19:15, but Volej star, with an excellent game in defense, and a cheerful Cebalović, managed to approach 20:19. However, Rašović and his friends repelled that attack and routinely brought the set to an end.
There was no dilemma in the third set, everything was clear at the second technical time-out, but Volej Star showed that it could be a serious rival of Buducnost in the semi-finals of the playoffs...
Cvetko Pajković, president of the Volleyball Association of Montenegro, presented the winning cup to the captain of the Budva Riviera, Ivan Rašović.
The medals were handed over to Volej Stara and Budva Riviera by Ivan Bošković, General Secretary of the Serbian Federation of Civil Aviation, and Darko Prebiračević, coach of Jedinstva, the host of the Cup final tournament.
Finally, the chief judge of the OSCG, Saša Ivanović, presented the medals to the judges of the final.
