Marko Šaranović, the suspect in the murder of Dragan Bećirović, has his right to defense threatened, claims his lawyer Branislav Lutovac, who believes that the prosecution is unjustifiably and illegally denying him the examination of evidence and copying of files from that case. "Not even after 15 days since Šaranović was suspected of murdering Bećirović from Budva and deprived of liberty, the senior state prosecutor leading the investigation did not allow me, as his defense attorney, to review the files and copy the evidence found in the case files," it is said in announcement from Lutovac. As he stated, after the first hearing of the defendant Saranović, he submitted a request with reference to the Code of Criminal Procedure to enable him to view the case files, but claims that there was no response. "On January 29, I filed an urgent request, but the result was the same. This behavior of the prosecution unjustifiably and illegally denies me the consideration of evidence and the copying of case files, which directly jeopardizes the right to defend the defendant Saranović," Lutovac believes. According to him, the prosecutor seriously questioned the legality of the criminal procedure itself and the investigative actions carried out so far. "On the same day that Šaranović was taken into custody, a press conference was held at the Police Directorate, where categorical claims were made about the existence of evidence that he committed the serious murder of Bećirović. If this is so and if they are sure that he is the perpetrator of the said crime, a logical question arises - why is the evidence being hidden from the defense," asked Lutovac.
