Lovers of the written word can enjoy one of the most famous and significant works of German literature, Thomas Mann's first novel "Budenbrokovi", published by the Podgorica publishing house Nova knjiga in cooperation with Nova knjiga Plus from Belgrade.
Thomas Mann's novel is about the decline of the bourgeoisie, which is shown through the decline of a prominent merchant family. The action of the novel takes place in Lübeck, Thomas Mann's hometown, and through several generations in the XNUMXth century, it follows the decline of the rich and distinguished merchant family Budenbrock.
At the center of the events are: a father who, in addition to his endless love, is ready to sacrifice the happiness of his children, the business failures of the father and his sons, conflicts between brothers and unhappy marriages... The author paints the inner states of the characters and their inner conflicts in an extraordinary way. Each character has their own characteristics, but we also recognize their family resemblances in each of them.
Thomas Mann received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1929 for the Buddenbrocks. This masterpiece of his, as a portrait of society, hardly has an equal in German literature. Among his most significant works, in addition to Budenbrock's, are the Magic Mountain and Death in Venice, which can be found in all City bookstores in the New Book and New Book plus editions.
