Action for Human Rights (HRA) announced that special prosecutor Đurđina Ivanović may be running away from responsibility when she claims that citizens are wrong when they report alleged crimes to the prosecutor, bypassing the police.
Ivanovic said two days ago that the leadership role of the prosecutor in the investigation is being misinterpreted, which is why the detection of criminal offenses is lightly placed in the jurisdiction and responsibility of the prosecutor.
"Public perception leads to citizens and the NGO sector reporting allegedly illegal actions directly to the prosecutor, bypassing the police, which is wrong," Ivanovic said at the opening of the training for the Special Police Team.
Because of this, the director of the Tea Action, Gorjanc Prelevic, wrote to the prosecutor yesterday, asking her to clarify her statement.
"Such an attitude can be understood as running away from responsibility, putting the ball in the police's court, that is, willingly distancing yourself and the state prosecutor's office from the responsibilities prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure," wrote Gorjanc-Prelević.
She added that it is unclear why Ivanovic believes that it is wrong to report the commission of criminal acts to the state prosecutor, when this is provided for by the CPC.
"Why do you think that it is a 'wrong thesis that the leadership role of the prosecutor in the investigation is misinterpreted, so the detection of criminal acts and perpetrators is lightly placed under the authority, and therefore the responsibility of the prosecutor...', when the CPC stipulates that the state prosecutor, for criminal offenses that are prosecuted ex officio, competent to direct the work of the police in the investigation with binding orders or leadership, he himself performs urgent evidentiary actions in the investigation, receives criminal reports from citizens, NGOs and the police...", asked the HRA director.
