In the Basic Court in Podgorica yesterday, the dispute over the lawsuit filed by the President of the Board of Directors of the University of Montenegro, Duško Bjelica, against the journalist of "Monitor" Veseljko Koprivica and that weekly, was concluded, and the decision of the judge Mirjana Popović will be announced at the beginning of January next year.
Bjelica is suing for 10.000 euros for damaged reputation and honor and suffered mental pain, due to the text "Leader of the DPS rush", published in July last year in "Monitor".
In that text, Koprivica wrote that Bjelica, as a member of the Democratic Party of Socialists, cannot hold a high office at the Montenegrin University. The prosecutor's attorney, lawyer Vladan Đuranoviće, in his final presentation, proposed that the court accept Bjelica's claim, as specified in the lawsuit.
The representative of "Monitor", lawyer Aleksandar Đurišić, states, among other things, that Bjelica also confirmed that he is a member of the party, which gives the defendant the right to believe that he acts in the party's interest, and that it is a column in which value judgments are allowed .
"Public figures are inevitably and consciously exposed to close examination of every word and deed, both by journalists and the public in general, and therefore they must create a greater degree of tolerance," said Đurišić in his final presentation.
During the dispute, Bjelica pointed out that being a member of the DPS does not mean that he is working on behalf of that party at the University or in any other capacity.
