"Vijesti" security chief Mirčeta Mališić was sentenced to six months in prison for illegal possession of weapons and explosive materials.
According to the verdict of Podgorica Basic Court judge Jelena Perović, if he commits a new criminal offense in the next two years, he will have to serve prison time, because at the request of his daughter-in-law, he temporarily took a semi-automatic rifle, a hunting carbine and a pistol into safekeeping. There are proper weapons certificates and permits for those weapons, which Mališić did not have with him during the search.
Mališić explained that the wife of Zdravko Ivanović, whose weapon is, asked him to transfer the rifles and pistol to her for safekeeping, due to her husband's health problems.
"She asked me to keep the weapon until he is better because of her husband's health problems and the safety of their family. I didn't take the gun papers, because I really didn't know that I had to have them with me. I'm sorry, but their safety was most important to me at that moment," said Mališić.
His defense attorney, lawyer Branislav Lutovac, stated that Mališić had never been criminally prosecuted or convicted before. He said that it was evident that at the time he was only trying to help his uncle and his family.
The attack on Mališić began after the principal of "Dragiša Ivanović" Elementary School Niko Raičević and his friend Krsto Petrić falsely accused him of endangering their safety.
First, in a restaurant in Podgorica, visibly intoxicated, they threw insults at the director of "Vijesta" Željko Ivanović and his friends, threatening to deal with political enemies of the regime along the way.
On the video from the bar's cameras, you can see that Raičević and Petrić behaved arrogantly and inappropriately for more than an hour, which is why almost all the guests left the cafe.
Before Ivanovic and his wife and friends left, Mališić entered the bar, whom they accused of endangering them.
After that, the police searched Mališić's apartment and found weapons.
