The trial of police officers Miloš Sekulić and Veseljko Vračar will begin on October 3 due to the omissions they made and allowed the "Vijesti" car to be set on fire on the night between February 12 and 13.
They will be tried in the Basic Court in Podgorica for abuse of official position, for which, according to the Criminal Code, a prison sentence of six months to five years is provided.
In the indictment, it is written that the accused policemen did not act according to the order of the police chief on duty - Sekulić left his duty on his own initiative fifteen minutes before the end of the shift, and Vračar stayed home even though he was supposed to take care of the "Vijesti" vehicle.
An assailant unknown to this day took advantage of all this and set fire to the car, which was almost completely destroyed in the fire.
It remains doubtful and unexplained how the attacker knew that the vehicle was not secured at that moment.
According to the order of the director of the Police Administration, Slavko Stojanović, the property of the independent daily "Vijesti" has been secured 24 hours a day since December 26, 2013, when an explosive device was thrown at the newsroom. In carrying out that order, Vračar and Sekulić were in charge of monitoring the official car used by the driver Ognjen Radović.
The editorial "Nisan" was set on fire around 2.30:XNUMX in the morning, in the parking lot, in front of the building where Radović lives. Vračar lost his job due to setting the vehicle on fire, and Sekulić was fined.
The police and the prosecutor's office have not yet solved the series of "Vijesti" car burnings in the summer of 2011. It all started in the night between July 13 and 14, 2011, when unknown perpetrators poured gasoline on two "Vijesti" vehicles in the parking lot near the ANB building.
On the night of July 26, a new attack took place in Maslini, in front of the house of a newspaper worker, another abandoned car of the "Vijesti" newsroom was set on fire.
On August 28, unknown assailants also set fire to a newspaper printing van at the Old Airport.
