After a little more than two years, Dragan Nešić left the helm of the women's volleyball team of Montenegro. He took responsibility for the results in the August part of the qualification for the European Championship (two wins and one loss each).
True, Montenegro is still, theoretically, in the game for placement at the EP, but our ladies have a tough job ahead of them in January, because they need a victory in Ukraine and a triumph at home against Greece.
The Presidency of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro accepted the resignation of Nešić, considering, apparently, that "credits have been spent" for continued cooperation...
"When we started cooperation, we agreed that our goal was to qualify for the European Championship. Unfortunately, this year we fell into a group that is too strong for us at the moment. Regardless of all that, we wanted to qualify for EP and I think we could have done it, through the match at home against Ukraine who did not show any game, no matter what we would have done in January. However, it did not happen, while we knew that against Greece it would not be easy. And since placement on the European Parliament is realistically called into question, responsibility should be taken, and I am a responsible person, so I took responsibility, absolutely, without any criticism towards anyone, Nešić told "Vijesti".
Nešić took over the helm of the national team on July 7, 2016. In the first cycle of qualification for the EP, Montenegro under the helm of Nešić did not pass the second round, but for the first time recorded two victories. They had the same performance in the Euroleague, while they registered one victory in five matches in the World Cup qualifiers. In the first four matches of this year's qualifiers for the European Championship, Montenegro defeated Norway twice, while experiencing maximum defeats against Greece and Ukraine...
"There is still a chance for placement in the European Parliament. But, I had a very nice and constructive conversation with President Pajković, very cultured and humane, as he was all the time, and we agreed that we squandered a serious chance, so I suggested that, maybe, they better find some other new energy. My only regret is that we didn't manage to win that Ukraine at home, but I am grateful to everyone, the players, the coaching staff, the Federation, the media, everyone... I think this is a normal thing, collegial , cultural. All doors remained open, maybe one day we will work together again," added Nešić.
