Even the smallest amount of milk you pour into your coffee is enough to reduce or even completely block the effect of some antibiotics and drugs against the onset and spread of osteoporosis, warned German pharmacists.
Various combinations of food and drugs can have numerous side effects, but most people would never think that milk is one of the "culprits" for that.
Representatives of the German Association of Pharmacists explained that calcium from milk binds to certain drugs, creating less soluble compounds that the vascular system fails to absorb.
That is why they warn customers that after taking antibiotics and drugs against the development and spread of osteoporosis, they should wait two hours before consuming coffee with milk.
Among other interactions are the simultaneous consumption of licorice and drugs for high blood pressure because this plant contains substances that affect the increase in pressure. This plant stimulates the release of potassium through the kidneys, which can lead to a weakening of muscle mass.
People with high blood pressure are recommended to consume less or avoid licorice.
Patients taking anticoagulants should avoid consumption of goji berries, good for immunity, which could interact and cause bleeding.
Grapefruit should be avoided by patients taking drugs to regulate blood cholesterol levels and those to strengthen the immune system, for example, drugs taken after an organ transplant.
German pharmacists also warn that fruit treated with chemical agents has a bad effect on the breakdown of drugs in the body, which can also increase or decrease their effect.
