Goals by Clint Dempsey in the first and John Brooks in the 86th minute brought victory to the United States of America in the first match at the World Cup - Jurgen Klinsmann's team defeated Ghana 2:1 in Natal in the second meeting of Group G, which also includes Germany and Portugal.
The Americans took the lead already in the 29th second after a masterful solo action and a goal by Dempsey, but the "black stars" continued, especially in the second half, took the field and forced the "Yankees" to be totally defensive.
That kind of play gave Ghana a result in the 82nd minute when Andre Aju checked Tim Howard after a great back-heel assist from Asamoah Gian.
And when it seemed that Ghana was even closer to victory, that the Americans were running out of strength, a corner followed from which stopper John Brooks shook the net with his head.
Dempsey's goal for 1:0 is, by the way, the fifth fastest in the history of world championships.
Ghana's next match is against Germany, against the USA is Portugal.
