Montenegrins want to defend the gold in Bar

The biggest competition sponsored by FISU (World University Sports Association), the 9th World University Karate Championship will be held from June 18 to 22 in Bar. SC "Topolica" will host over 500 competitors from 43 countries from all continents.

Unlike the European University Championship, where different universities from the same country can enter teams, there is only one national team at the World Championship.

This means that the strongest teams of the countries will perform, with the only restriction being the age limit of 28 years. In such a competition, the Montenegrin national team composed of karate players from all three of our universities - University of Montenegro, Mediteran and Donja Gorica, will have a difficult task: to defend the title of team champion in men's fights won two years ago in Bratislava.

"The competition will never be stronger, and the rule is that it is more difficult to defend the title. However, we will have the advantage of the home field, and a more experienced team, since we are playing with an almost unchanged lineup. Apart from Almir Cecunjanin, who will be replaced by Danilo Lučić, this team confirmed the quality and winning at last year's European University Championship in Budapest. Since the national team members are mostly members of Budućnosti, apart from me, they also worked with the club's coach Dragoljub Kopitović. We were also lucky that injuries bypassed us," said the selector of the University selection of Montenegro, Rajko Vujošević.

The Student Sports Association of Montenegro announced the arrival in Bar of not only the top managers of FISU, but also of the World Karate Federation - WKF.

"At the last three World Championships where we performed as a Montenegrin student national team, we won 10 medals. We built a reputation, and made a successful series of results, which we want to continue. Everything is subordinated to that, and I must also emphasize the support and understanding of the management of all three of our university - concluded Vujošević.
