The mother and two minor children of the late Aleksandar Pejanović initiated a dispute in the Basic Court in Podgorica and are demanding compensation from the policeman Zoran Bulatović and the state of Montenegro for his murder, support for his children, as well as funeral expenses.
Bulatović was legally sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of Pejanović in May 2011, when, after a brief argument, he deliberately shot Pejanović to death in the garden of the "Lido" cafe in Podgorica.
The state, that is, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was also sued, because they own the gun that killed Pejanović.
They demand that the defendants pay Pejanović's children 150 euros per month, for the mental pain suffered by his mother and children, to pay 50.000 euros and 6.500 for funeral expenses.
At yesterday's hearing, Bulatović said that it was indisputable that he killed Pejanović, but that it would not have happened if the latter had not insulted and provoked him.
He pointed out that Pejanović had been divorced for many years and that it was necessary for the prosecutor's attorney to submit a judgment on divorce, in order to determine from that judgment whether Pejanović was obligated to support the children and proof that he fulfilled that obligation.
"I have three minor children, towards whom I have an obligation to support, so since I am in prison, I cannot fulfill that obligation either, so I believe that I cannot fulfill the obligation towards the children of the late Pejanović," said Bulatović.
Judge Zoran Šćepanović accepted Bulatović's proposal and ordered prosecutors' attorney Dalibor Kavarić to submit the divorce judgment within 15 days, as well as any evidence of payments to minor plaintiffs in the name of maintenance.
