The Russian and Ukrainian boxing teams will compete in the quarterfinals of the World Series, despite the tensions between the two countries, the International Boxing Association announced today.
The Russian and Ukrainian teams will box in the quarter-finals against each other as previously scheduled, on March 30 in Moscow and April 4 in Donetsk, according to the announcement.
"Both teams agreed that politics should not interfere with sports," it added.
The winner of that duel will box in the semi-finals with the better team from the USA and Cuba, on April 25 and May 2.
The Crimean parliament declared independence on Monday, after 96,6 percent of citizens voted for secession from Ukraine in a referendum.
