Many ambitious people want to be the best they can be, they want to make the best decisions and seize every opportunity.
"I've observed for some time how many people put themselves under incredible strain, especially younger people," says psychologist Madeline Leitner, adding: "It starts with making career choices and continues with constant comparison to peers."
One of the main causes of these efforts is the existence of a wide range of opportunities, and people naturally want to take advantage of them. Leitner points out that the problem lies in the fact that people are often not aware of how much pressure they are under.
"They only start to realize it when they experience insomnia, ringing in the ears, fear of failure, or other typical stress symptoms," she explains.
According to Rider's Digest, these are the signs that indicate you are sick due to stress:
Rash
If red, itchy bumps suddenly appear on your skin, the culprit could be stress, not an allergy to something. When the body is under too much stress, the immune system in the body weakens and it is harder for it to fight against diseases. This is the reason why the skin becomes too sensitive to external factors - soap, cold or heat, lotion, detergent...
Weight gain
Stress promotes increased release of cortisol, the stress hormone, which impairs the body's ability to process blood sugar. Because of this, the way the body metabolizes fats, proteins and carbohydrates also changes, and this can lead to the accumulation of extra pounds. Stress is also often the culprit for turning to unhealthy eating habits and overeating.
Headache
If you have never suffered too much from a headache, and recently you have it often, the reason may be too much stress in your life. Stress releases certain chemicals in the brain that can cause changes in nerves or blood vessels.
Bloating and heartburn
Stress can disrupt the work of the digestive system in several ways - it encourages increased production of stomach acid, which leads to heartburn. It also slows down the processing of food from the stomach, which causes bloating. When digestive problems continue in the large intestine, diarrhea or cramping are also possible.
Frequent colds
Stress weakens immunity, which can make you more prone to colds. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh infected volunteers with a cold virus. Some of them were under stress and they had twice as many patients as in the group where there was no stress.
Acne
If you normally have a clean face and are not in your teens, but you have acne, it could be due to stress. In this case too, the increased secretion of cortisol is to blame. Then the glands produce more oil, and the excess remains trapped in the follicles along with dirt and dead skin cells, so acne appears.
Confusion in the head and mental illnesses are caused by stress
Too much cortisol in the body makes it difficult to concentrate and focus. All this leads to memory problems, depression and anxiety
Hair loss
Strong and prolonged stress results in the so-called resting phase of the hair follicle. This leads to increased hair loss. Also, it can cause the immune system to attack the follicles, so your hair will fall out in that case as well. Hair can also become weak due to a lack of iron in the body, writes Rider's Digest.
