The first plane that flew from Tbilisi to Sochi after more than 10 years brought four Georgian athletes and officials to the Winter Olympic Games today.
Regular flights between Georgia and Russia were canceled after the short war between these two countries in August 2008, and there were no flights to Sochi even before that.
Intermittent flights between Tbilisi and Moscow began in 2010.
The Winter Games in Sochi are a very sensitive issue for many in Georgia. After the 2008 war, Georgia lost control over two territories, including Abkhazia, which is very close to Sochi.
There were only 15 passengers on the plane that landed in Sochi today.
