In the yard near the former "Košuta" in Cetinje, where stray dogs gather, someone poured mouse poison into their food yesterday, Julija Milanović, an activist of the Society for the Protection of Animals in Cetinje, told Vijesta.
She says that situations like this don't happen so rarely in Cetinje, that someone "tries to kill abandoned animals in such a cruel way". The police were informed about the specific case, after which the poisoned food was removed from the yard.
"The police were there and made a report, but we don't know if they will be able to find who is responsible for this," says the activist.
Milanović adds that they did not find any dead animals, but that the veterinarian explained to them that this is a type of poison, that when an animal takes it, it dies in agony for up to ten days.
In Cetinje, the organization for animal protection is "outraged at the representatives of the local government who were obliged to implement the law on animal protection and establish a shelter for abandoned animals by the end of February 2011".
"We have been unsuccessfully trying for a long time to schedule a meeting with representatives of the local government in order to show them the seriousness of the problem and see if and when the municipality intends to build an animal shelter, and such a thing does not require large funds," Milanović said.
She also recalls that two years ago they found cookies with poison on the city streets.
"One such sample has been in my freezer all this time, because the competent services have no intention of sending it for analysis," says Milanović.
