The winner of the jubilee 60th NIN literary award for 2013 is Goran Gocić for the book "Tai" published by "Geopoetika", the five-member jury decided.
The decision was made by a jury consisting of Ljiljana Šop, Vladislava Gordić Petković, Mileta Aćimović Ivkov, Mića Vujičić and Vasa Pavković (president), and from last year's huge production - a total of 182 titles published in 2013 - was chosen "Tai".
As many as five writers whose novels competed last year were also in the competition this year, and two writers (Bojan Babić and Živojin Ivković) each had two published novels that met the conditions of the competition.
The ceremonial presentation of the award to Goran Gocić is scheduled for January 17 at 17 p.m. in the City Assembly.
Vladislav Bajac wrote about the novel "Tai": "A book determined by its topos: Thailand. Love and Thailand. Woman, sexuality, demystification of the main character. Analysis of the Far East in relation to the (Far) West.
"A feasibility study of sorts"
If it wasn't a novel, this would be a "feasibility study" on how a self-aware man could or rather - wanted to (Christianly) protect a woman. A project that is doomed to failure under the given conditions: not because it is not feasible but because it is not needed. This apparently fragile woman, by her very "passive" existence, presence, (Buddhist) refusal to accept, will contribute to the self-destruction of this seemingly macho man at the beginning of the book, who will turn into a vulnerable being in an astonishingly honest self-analysis. So vulnerable that he will need Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travelers.
The structure of the novel is both simple and complicated. The result is very useful for the book: the weight prevails in comprehensibility, as the second character of the book, the hero's shadow, complement, contrast or even alter ego, ideally complements this guest in another culture. Thus, the Notes at the end of the text build on fiction, that is, Fine Art.
Tai is a lesson to the self-indulgent Westerner on how to heal his haughty ego with Eastern compliance. But there are no winners. Maybe just a loser. But even then - "healed" by the Empire of the Void. And she is female."
