The Ski Jumping World Cup starts today in Kligenthal, Germany, and the numerous stars of this attractive sport have only one goal - to dethrone the incredible Austrian Gregor Schlirensauer.
Although he will only turn 24 at the beginning of January, the popular Šliri broke the competition last season with the most wins in one season, and also broke the record of the legendary Finn Mati Nikenen for the number of World Cup wins.
Schlierencauer has already registered 50 victories, and this season he will also defend the trophy at the New Year's Tour "Four Ski Jumps", one of the most demanding competitions in world sports!
There is a long list of great jumpers who will try to dethrone the first favorite, Schlierencauer, this season.
Primarily the veteran from Switzerland, Simon Amann, who traditionally explodes in an Olympic year.
Four years ago, Amman won two Olympic golds.
Among the favorites are the Austrians, Thomas Morgenstern, Andreas Kefler, Wolfgang Lojzl and Manuel Fetner, the Germans Zeverin Freund, Richard Freitag, the Norwegians Andres Jakobsen and Andreas Bardal, who won the World Cup the season before last.
The successor of the great Pole Adam Mališ, Kamil Štoh, is also competitive.
In addition to the World Cup, the New Year's tour and the Olympic Games, this season there is also the World Ski Flying Championship in Harahovo, where the Slovenians have a big trump card, Robert Kranjec, but also Jurij Tepeš, the winner of the last flying competition.
Apart from them, until the season closes on March 23 at Planica, he will try to take advantage of other great jumpers, such as the Czech Jan Matura or the returnee, Jane Ahonen.
Before the first individual competition yesterday, teams tried out the ski jump, and the winner was Slovenia with 540,6 points.
Tepeš, Kranjec, Jaka Hvala and Peter Prevc left Germany far behind them with 528,3 points, while favored Austria was only fifth with 499,8 points.
