Doctors warn about the "triangle of death on the face" - an area that is very sensitive and where you should not squeeze pimples or pull hairs. It is the area from the center between the eyebrows to the end of the lips, it includes the upper lip, the area between the lips and the nose, the nose and the part of the forehead that is located above the root of the nose.
The new warning follows the case of a woman who popped what she believed to be a pimple and thereby only made life more complicated.
She actually had cellulitis - a bacterial infection that spreads through the skin and subcutaneous tissue, and can affect the lymph glands and enter the bloodstream. Once it enters the bloodstream, it spreads throughout the body, and when it forms on the face, it can easily reach the brain.
Namely, it didn't even cross Kathy Wright's mind while squeezing a blackhead that within an hour her face would become swollen and painful. She sought help and it turned out to be a serious infection that can be fatal if the medicine is not received in time, the portal "Healthline.com" reports.
"I went to the emergency room and was told I had a severe form of cellulitis caused by staph which does damage deep into the cellular tissue. Because it was on my face, there was a high risk of it spreading to my brain or eyes, resulting in blindness," said this girl.
The cause of the infection in her case is most likely dirty makeup that was in the area of the "triangle of death".
"That area is connected by many capillaries and blood vessels," explained Dr. Ameš A. Adalja, a certified infectious disease specialist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in Pennsylvania, reports B92.
