The FIAT 3 Festival of International Alternative Theater ended with the concert of the Croatian band "Let 2013" and the awarding of awards for the best play, best director and best actor.
The expert jury of this year's FIAT composed of Sonja Vukićević (president of the jury, choreographer and ballerina), Vasko Raičević (playwright) and Matko Botić (theatre critic and dramatist) awarded the prize for the best play to the play "City of Demons" directed by Andraš Urban, Teatra Kosztolányi Dezső and MASZK from Subotica.
The play "City of Demons", according to the jury's explanation, "approaches the everyday relationship to the Other with a strange stage aesthetic, trying to outplay the grotesque reality it is surrounded by using theatrical means."
"At the same time a full-blooded offshoot of political theater and an imaginative, playful escape into introspection, "City of Demons" stands out in this year's festival context as a play that combines its own uncompromising ethical program with aesthetic breakthroughs towards the new. Andraš Urban's new work, more than all other works this year, succeeds in being an (abused) child of its time and a specific space, and precisely because of this, it stands out as the best performance of the Festival", judged the three-member jury of FIAT 2013.

The award for best director was awarded to Andraš Urban, for directing the play "City of Demons". Urban was awarded the prize unanimously, "for the precision of the director's handwriting and the achievement of compactness in the ratio of different theatrical elements, ranging from visual to olfactory".
"Originally resolved scenes in which banality is skilfully avoided, even though they deal with a topic that is difficult to keep outside of that framework, they build ambiguous and at the same time clear symbols, along with a series of interesting associations that alternate in a fast and uniform rhythm", wrote the jury in explanation.
The award for the best acting achievement was awarded by the jury to the Macedonian actor Zdravko Stojmirov for his role in the play "Diary of a Madman", by the Little Drama Theater of Bitola from Macedonia. Stojmirov stood out as the most impressive actor of this year's FIAT, "primarily because of the ascetic dedication and maximum concentration that characterizes his monodramatic performance."
"Continuously in the gap between the spoken act and the masochism of the movement, Stojmirov convincingly proves that in the theater, even without multimedia montages of attractions, a single, fragile and imperfect human body is enough for the mouth to be an essential act of rebellion," the jury's announcement reads.
Recognizable audience
The renewed Festival of International Alternative Theater lasted from September 1 to 15 in two segments "Montenegro Art Guerilla" and "FIAT - Political Theater".
According to the organizers, 12 visitors attended the first 2.500 days of the festival, and around 60 Montenegrin artists of different author profiles and generations participated in the "Montenegro Art Guerilla" program segment.
In the "FIAT - political theater" segment, performances by important theater authors from Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia and Montenegro were performed.
"The festival of international alternative theater, thanks mostly to its recognizable audience, has returned to the big gates, as evidenced by the constant interest of the domestic and foreign media in the events at the Festival", announced the organizers. The "base" of this year's FIAT was the premises of Kuslev's house, on the shore of Ribnica, and the festival was renewed at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, with the help of the Capital City of Podgorica and the general sponsor Crnogorski Telekom.
